@sharon-Empress Depot I saw your post at Bonanza about how you submit to search engines. How often do you do this? One of the venues that I use give links to do this. I'll have to try to find it. I think that Bonanza forum discussion was about submitting a shop, rather than individual products, right?
Thanks!

Hi Sandi. I actually was going to mention in my post that she could submit individual listings but I did not want to confuse her since she seems to be new and I think new to selling online altogether? Yes, you can also submit individual listings using those links.
A seller definitely does not want to submit a site over and over too close to each other otherwise Google will view it as the seller trying to spam.
I would only submit a site when there has been a good amount of content changed for our listings...one example is how I am going through category by category and editing titles and descriptions, changing prices.
For me in the past, on a regular basis meant submitting my booth link once every 6 months because by then I had more listings added from the time before. Now I am thinking it would not hurt to get into the habit of adding the new listing URL to Google as I go along.
What do you think?
Six months is a long time.
I could not believe how fast the lady said her items appeared in Google organic after submitting her site. I've never heard of it being that fast before. Good for her though and then good for us then.

What Sharon said...I would only submit it if there have been significant changes or additions. So, really, how often you do it depends on how much you change or add. For example, if you're in the habit of listing or tweaking a lot, I would submit the URL after every 25 new products is added or tweaked
If you don't list or change much, I'd say once every two to three months is sufficient just to refresh what's out there. The bottom line is that Google doesn't care how often you do it as long as you have a sufficient amount of new or edited info.

I think PurpleIris gave a good suggestion, and this that she said is great info: The bottom line is that Google doesn't care how often you do it as long as you have a sufficient amount of new or edited info.
Thanks for sharing this info. I knew about submitting individual listings years ago, and I did it a little. I just don't see how I could do that for all of my products in all of the shops that I have. I guess it's a great opportunity to share occasionally, like when a new brand is introduced. For adding the shop url I think every 3 months is good, or especially sooner if necessary using PurpleIris' guideline.

@artsycrafterystudio, I'd be curious to know if it serves us better to submit individual listings or the shop URL. Of course, if you have a lot of listings, it would be rather time consuming to do them all individually. However, I wonder how well it would work to feature listings, give a boost to ones for products that don't seem to be moving, etc.

I think for pricier and mediocre pricing is a good time to submit a URL listing individually when first listed. However, I wonder how well it would work to feature listings, give a boost to ones for products that don't seem to be moving, etc. I like this idea.

I've been checking things out with listings on Google shopping. What also prompted this is someone asked me to take a look at their listings. I do not think some of the old rules apply anymore....not just the one about sellers being able to list the same item that they have on say two different sites.
I tested and looked really carefully.
I do not think Google shopping restricts to reading the first 250 spaces of the description anymore and I'm also wondering about the title being restricted anymore.
And I also think it is becoming an older rule about punctuation and I think that Google organic is ignoring punctuation more and more now. I'm not sure how Google shopping is with this though. I'll have to look into this.
This is just me, what I've decided after researching, checking on listings, etc.

@artsycrafterystudio How are you doing at Etsy if you do not mind me asking. You are so gifted in what you do and your personality is always upbeat. I'm wishing you success there.
Gosh, I think I'm writing a book on this thread...guess I'll slow down and let folks catch up lol.

I'll have to look into this. This is just me, what I've decided after researching, checking on listings, etc. I agree that some of the practices that used to be beneficial may not be so anymore. The links that I was given to submit are very old, from so long ago. Even back then the interface to submit through looked old and outdated and I wondered just how current it was. I've heard over the years that Google no longer accepted individual submissions from sellers, and of course we know that some venues dropped out of sharing at G Shopping when they started charging. Apparently, the charge was stiff too because the smaller, lesser-known listing sites could not afford it. So a submission link suddenly appears and is passed around after G Shopping stops accepting from individuals and starts charging? So because of the confusion and back-and-forth, I lost interest in it. I began to feel like I was submitting into the black hole of deep space where my link traveled forever and ever and no one knew it existed. Not even sure if I could find my record of the link after years of not using it. I tried to join Google Merchant Svcs a long time ago and was never able to get in. I think they wanted something that I did not have, and for some reason I didn't pursue getting it our could not. Don't even know if G Merchant Svcs is open to anyone anymore. I only have time to do so much promoting, very little, so what I invest time in must be without-a-doubt valid, current and effective.

Gosh, I think I'm writing a book on this thread...guess I'll slow down and let folks catch up lol. Thanks for asking and thanks for the nice compliments! I love motivating others, which is why Positive Words Artwork is such a wonderful shop for me to have at Etsy. I do struggle often with my own challenges in life, and at those times it helps me so much to remember what I tell others. Doing good with listing, light promoting usually via Pinterest, visiting the forums to spread myself around and inviting sellers to fav my shop. Haven't sold anything since I opened in November. Honestly, while I hope to sell lots and lots of course , I don't expect to get rolling anytime soon. I already know how much E has changed and it is virtually impossible to be found now through the site. I know that most of my sale opportunities will come through what I do to promote myself. Hoping for more time to do that but currently I can do very little. I am faithful with what I can do though. I'm also using their forums, and hope to find time to read bits in the Etsy Sellers' Manual, about SEO. I know some but not a lot. I've been paying attention to how I word my listings titles/descriptions and using some of their practices. I've been working on producing better pics and stuff. So you can say that I'm doing the busy work in faith, expecting my shop to take off in the future. I think it's important to have an intelligent understand of what's really going on and not operate through rose-colored glasses, because it can cause a seller to quit too soon. I like to give a venue at least a year before I decide whether or not it is viable. That way I have weathered the holidays, seasons and yearly events. I don't think it's fair to judge a listing site without that experience there. Now, honestly with Etsy and it's problems and challenges, I expect to be there no less than 2 yrs of trying to make it work.

I've heard over the years that Google no longer accepted individual submissions from sellers I'm not sure about individual listings, but Google still encourages merchants to submit their site URL in their help pages and they provide that same link for submitting it.
