I'm working on my site and want to ship internationally without limiting the countries being shipped to other than restricting shipment to problem countries. My site has USPS calculated shipping integrated, but I'm wondering if it will calculate automatically for all countries included or if I'll have to worry about providing quotes. If I have to provide quotes, I'll have to limit the countries I ship to for now. I know the USPS site provides international quotes. I'm just not sure if they provide that info via their API. It looks like they do, but I'd like to hear a confirmation from someone who's had experience shipping internationally using calculated shipping. I'm also concerned about how it will handle orders of multiple items. For each product, I can enter the box dimensions along with its weight and select specific shipping methods. I can also tell it whether or not each product is available for international shipping or if it requires separate shipping. So, I'm hoping that will suffice and I won't have to provide quotes or worry about being shorted on international shipping charges. Once I start adding products to the store, I can do a test, but I'd rather get things set up properly on the CSV files so I'm not having to backtrack and redo shipping settings. So if anyone has used international calculated shipping, I'd love to hear your input. Thanks in advance!

My memory is not doing too well, so I'll try to help on what I definitely know and share when I do not know.
I used it on eBay a long time ago back when I was selling there quite often.
It worked like a charm on eBay (USPS). The only thing is I cannot remember the specifics. But I do know that we could set up shipping to international separate from domestic shipping. I'm thinking you would need this kind of situation.
As for multiple purchases from international, I'm not sure how that would work even if you could set up international shipping per each listing. I do not know if it would "think" to add the dimensions but I'm sure it would "think" to add the weight together.
On Presto, I can do international for calculated shipping (to verify this though I will need to contact Presto and ask. Now that I'm thinking about it I am not 100% sure). But there is no way to set the dimensions (also no way to set up international separate from the USA) and so I avoid this. I state for the shopper to contact me for a shipping quote or else they do check out not waiting to ask me beforehand and I'll send an invoice for the difference in shipping via Paypal. For the international folks who have checked out in my store, I had those listings set up as a flat rate.....so it did not calculate and I have no way to know if it would have calculated properly for international because of this. Obviously I had to invoice them for the difference in shipping via Paypal.
I could just make it to where international shoppers cannot checkout at all and wait for their inquiry but I prefer it this way. Long story on why.
The reason I am able to combine shipping for the USA even though I am not able to put the dimensions is because I tend to carry smaller items and I also state in the listing that on multiple purchases I reserve the right to ship items out in more than one box unless prior arrangements have been made via Treasure Aisle Mercantile. Most item I have also do not weigh a whole lot, too. So in my opinion my combined shipping works out great. I have yet to ship in two separate boxes.
On Bonanza I used to use flat rate for international because you do have a separate area for this (no way to set up calculated though as far as I remember). Depending on the countries and location I would set the flat rate up accordingly. You could do that on Bonanza. For example, one flat rate price to Canada and one flat rate price to Germany. However, for me, I would not deal with flat rate any longer since they went up on their shipping fees drastically just in case there is an error. A little over in weight can be quite a difference now a days to international.
Here are the countries I do not ship to. This is what I am comfortable with:
"We currently do not ship to Brazil, China, France, Italy, Malaysia, Russia, Spain or the entire Middle East (except for Israel)."
I hope this helps. I know I have not been able to answer specifically.

I sent Presto a question asking them if the calculator would calculate properly for international. I'll post back here when I get an answer.

Thanks, Sharon! I do have a lot to think about since my products come from different sources. I posted questions on Miva's forums, which I'm STILL waiting to be approved for posting 4+ hours later. So hopefully someone will be able to help. These are the types of setup-related questions that their user manual doesn't answer. They have a very long user manual, but it doesn't get detailed enough on some topics. I think the only reason my posts require approval is because we had to reset my forum account sometime back and it reset the number of posts I've made to zero. If I remember right, once I've reached five posts, they'll no longer require approval. I've posted four so far, but three are still waiting to be approved from earlier today. I just can't believe it's taking so long to get posts approved. I don't know when the first post finally got approved because I found the answer myself in the user manual, but I know it was more than 12 hours later because that was the last time I checked. So, I found the answer long before they posted my question. I just hope it doesn't take them that long to approve them this time because I need these questions answered and I don't like dealing with support. I have to start a support ticket, but doing so has us going back and forth via email, which takes too dang long to get anywhere. Either they don't answer all questions, misunderstand what I'm asking, or don't provide a full answer. It's just like texting a whole conversation back and forth over hours or days when the same conversation could have been finished in mere minutes if you'd just call me. It annoys the heck out of me. Just call me and get it over with! LOL So I prefer calling Miva, but then I'd have to wait on hold forever if I don't have a support ticket and that's just an extra step that takes too much time when I could just pick up the phone and dial. So, it doesn't seem like there's really any way for me to get assistance in a timely fashion. Grrr! I wish their stupid manual would answer ALL of my questions. I mean, GEEZ! It's 600 pages long, so you would think it would have an answer to every question you could possibly dream up. LOL Oh well, I'm going back and forth between a few different things, so it's not like I don't have something to keep me busy in the interim. I'm currently trying to get the descriptions for my ornaments tweaked and I'm only half way through. Then I need to add their image URLs to the CSV file. Once all that's done, I can get those uploaded to the site. Anywho, I think I'm done doing for the day. I've been getting up early, starting work almost immediately and then working all day with not much of a break. So I deserve to cut out before 5 o'clock. LOL

You are welcome Nicole. I wish you could just get your answers. I know that must be frustrating. Plus, they are the ones who will REALLY know the answer inside and out since each site has a different type of set up.
I know what you mean about your stuff coming from different sources. I would think combined shipping would be near impossible, other than for the items you have on hand. What do you think?
I've never had an international buyer purchase more than one item at a time. Maybe it is due to the cost of shipping to them....

Just heard back.
"Your store can be set-up to calculate international shipping based on weight for your items with weights."

NEITHER of my posts have been posted to their forums, yet!!!! So, I just bombarded support with three separate support tickets. LOL One regarding why my forum posts are taking so long to get approved -- and why they need approval to begin with -- one regarding my shipping questions, and one regarding my PayPal setup.
We'll see how long it takes support to respond. What a waste of time! Now that I've submitted my tickets, if I haven't heard back within the next few hours, I'll be calling them. It's ridiculous that I should have to wait so long to get answers I need -- not to mention that it's been more than 24 hours since I posted to the forums and they haven't been approved yet. I don't recall having these problems in the past when I first started working on my site.

I( hear you.
You probably will not see much activity from me here in the forums. I'm trying to work on my store like crazy. My aunt had a quadruple bypass a few weeks ago. During it she had a massive stroke and was in a coma. She's out of the coma now but not much better. At first we thought she would be getting drastically better due to her boyfriend talking to the doctor, but he must have misunderstood (he does not understand medical very well). She cannot talk or move her right side.....she cannot do much of anything right now other than being stuck in her own body. It is very very sad and difficult because I am very close to her.
My other aunt also went into the hospital the same day as the other aunt I was just talking about. She is terminal.
I'm saving up to go visit in August or September. I wish I could go now. It's like I cannot get there fast enough.
So, I'm having to be a good girl and really concentrate on my priorities right now. Sorry, I did not mean to hijack your thread but I've been meaning to tell you....
Your store will do well and once you get your questions answered you are gonna fly.

I'm so sorry to hear about your aunts. As if one being seriously ill isn't difficult enough. ((((HUGS)))) I will keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers and do understand about focusing on your store. I'm trying to do the same thing, myself, but I can't finish my CSV files until I get those answers because that info needs to be plugged into them. I've got multiple things to work on, though, so it's not like I'm stuck and not moving forward. It's just that I'm nearing that point where I'm going to have to get those things set up for my CSV files. Plus, I do need to get more products uploaded so I can be sure the whole product list appears the way it's supposed to (ie, the columns fit the width, etc.). Anywho, I'm not going to mess with support anymore tonight. It's already going on 9p and I need to start winding down. Hopefully it won't rain tomorrow so I can go to Home Depot and get what I need for the flowerbeds. The next good day of weather we have, I need to get my tush out there and finish them up. It's been raining a lot, lately, and the weatherman keeps things backwards -- the days rain is forecasted, it doesn't rain, and the days it is NOT forecasted, it DOES rain. So it's been impossible to plan my gardening activities. LOL P.S. -- If you'd like to get on the phone for a few, just give me a call.

Wouldn't you know...my posts are suddenly appearing in Miva's forums. I haven't checked my email, yet, to see if they responded to my support ticket, but it obviously got someone's attention. Now I have to wait for peeps to respond to them -- if support cannot help me, that is. ETA: Someone did respond via email and he said he's not sure why, but my account was set for moderation. He removed the moderation setting so my future posts won't require approval. Woohoo!
