As you may remember, my aunt brought over a hundred products for me to sell in my shops on her behalf. Of course, she's paying me a percentage for it, but has left it up to me what that percentage will be. I've never sold anything on consignment before -- or had anything sold by others -- so I am completely in the dark about what a fair commission rate would be. Anyone have any experience with this and, if so, what is the average rate? Thanks!

Yeah, I would not go any lower than that......especially considering that you will have the Paypal fee and the time listing and then shipping.

I had a headache last night when I read your last post, so it didn't dawn on me until later that you meant 35% off the top -- before deducting fees and then paying the fees out of my share. I was thinking of deducting fees before taking the commission since fees vary sale to sale. It does help that Etsy has calculated shipping now, though. So, 35% off the top, but what about after fees? Would 35% still be fair? I should do some number-crunching, I guess. I haven't gotten that far, yet, as I'm still in the listing process of this first batch. I would have gotten those done and published yesterday had I not had to stop to mow the backyard. Then I got a Meniere's headache afterwards -- and it's still lingering a little -- so I couldn't push through the last of them. After those are done, then I'll have to do all the photos, measurements, and weighing for the second batch before I can get those listed. At least the second batch is about half the size of the first batch since I knocked out the two biggest sets of products first -- the Precious Moments and Danbury Mint stuff. Next is the Hallmark ornaments and Depression glass. Anywho, I should get to it while my headache is at a minimum. Hopefully this coffee will help knock it out entirely since I know it's due to a lack of caffeine yesterday -- I ran out of Mountain Dew and only had one cup of coffee. Changing my intake of caffeine and salt are the two worst triggers for headaches and vertigo. A lack of caffeine always causes headaches (and sometimes vertigo or a loss of my sense of balance) and even a slight increase in salt always causes vertigo (the higher the increase, the more severe it is). But enough about that...back to work.

You could make it 40%.
Once I listed some stuff on consignment for a lady who had an antique store. I got 25% from her plus the cost of FVFs and Paypal. (she paid).
Price means a lot too as in what will it be selling for.
Much of the stuff was priced high and sold for high.
However, she did do some auctions starting at $9.99 and that is what they sold for.
I told her that I could not do the auctions for $9.99 at 25% because it was not worth my time. She then said, "but some of the stuff you get from me goes for higher." And I told her, "some stuff (9.99) will not be worth listing then.
So, this is something else to think about...........price points.....what would you be willing to except listing at a lessor price and what would you be willing to except listing at a higher percentage.
Or, you could just do 35% or 40% and split the cost of the Paypal fee or let her pay the Paypal fee completely.
Personally, at 25% it was ONLY worth it because of the price point. For lower items (even at a price point of 30.00) it would have been VERY hard to swallow.
BUT I still would not go lower than 35% whether you cover the cost of Paypal or not.

PS: I also thought you were only selling these on your own website. So, if you are going to have FVF fees, then it probably would be best to take the FVFs out of the 35%. Or just do it however you want to

I will be listing them on my own site, too -- as well as eCrater. Right now, I'm just getting them on Etsy since collectibles have been selling there. The item prices range from $18 to $150, but most being $30+. I'll crunch numbers later. I just got through getting those 51 listings published on Etsy and now I need to go to the store before I can take a nap. I would have had them finished sooner if it weren't for the setback on the images.
I was initially counting a total of 62 listings for this batch because the 11 Cherished Teddies are on the Enesco list, but they're not vintage, so they aren't getting listed on Etsy. Those will get included with the next batch and will only be listed on eCrater until I get my site up. So, I'll have 36 listings to work on for the next batch, totaling 87 listings -- close enough to the 100 I was estimating. LOL
Anywho, I need to get to the store so I can hurry up and take a nap -- I'm pooped! I was determined to get the first batch of listings done this afternoon no matter how tired I was. There were a few times I started nodding off at the mouse, but I just slapped myself in the face and said, "Stop that!" LOL
