PickyChicky Preparing to begin the setup process: You said: "In order for the shipping calculator to work properly, you need to make sure you have the proper dimensions entered for each listing as well as the various box sizes you have available for shipping. As you will see, you cannot apply a calculated shipping profile to a listing unless its weight and dimensions are entered. The dimensions provided within the listing details are what the system uses to select the package size(s), whether by itself or in combination with other items. So, if you offer combined shipping, you can't just enter the package size for an item -- you will need the actual product dimensions; plus any cushion you want around it, if any." So, am I only able to enter the dimensions while in an actual listing?

Yes, for each individual listing's dimensions, you will need to enter that on the edit listing page under the Shipping > Item Size section. There are three boxes, one each for L, W and H.
For the dimensions of the packages you will use, you can either use Etsy's list or create your own under the Package Preferences section of the main Manage Shipping Profiles page (beneath the profiles you have set). This is where you will include all of the different size boxes you use for the system to choose from at the time an order is placed. This may be difficult for you if you use a lot of recycled boxes rather than Priority or boxes you purchased. I do use recycled boxes, but try to match them with other boxes I've purchased instead of entering them individually.
Make sense?

Yes, this makes sense.
It will be difficult for me to use certain size boxes all across the board.
If I remember right, you said that even for buyers that are only in the USA, doing some flat rate listings and some calculated listings, Etsy's cart will not be able to give a shipping price?

Oh, they'll still get a shipping price. Someone explained to me once how it works, but I can't remember which way it goes. I believe the items with flat rates will simply have their flat rate for "as additional item" added to the calculated price for the others. However, I'm not sure if that applies if the main flat rate is higher than the calculated rate of any of the others because it usually starts with the highest price and adds on from there.
Get what I mean? I know that was kind of a tongue twister even for my fingers. LOL You should ask about that on Etsy's forums because there are several who would know for sure. The bottom line is that the customer will be charged for shipping at a rate that should cover your cost if your shipping is set up right.

This is nice! Do they also offer same day courier service? Because now days people are actually looking for such companies that offer to deliver the package on the very same day. Less patience, you see! Anyways I really liked this post and I would love to share it with my friends.

Howdy @chargoi16 and welcome to the Cafe! I'm glad you found the post helpful. It looks like it might need some updating since they've changed the layout of things over at Etsy -- namely the seller dashboard, which I'm sure you're already familiar with. You're certainly welcome to invite your friends to give a read. It's on a public board, so membership is not required to read it, but would be if they wanted to post any questions or comments. To answer your question, Etsy does not specifically offer same day courier service. As mentioned, their shipping calculator only calculates for USPS. Since I'm sure this is something you're wanting to offer on all of your items, the shipping calculator may not be the route you'd want to take. The reason being that you would have to create flat rate shipping profiles to include a charge for the various shipping methods -- First-Class, Priority, and Same Day Courier Service. Of course, it would need to be done based on weight for the USPS options, meaning you would need multiple profiles for each weight or weight range. However, I'm not familiar with how courier services charge for their deliveries, so I have no idea how you would incorporate that into it. Considering the above and the amount of work that would go into it, you might want to forego offering the same day courier service option unless a majority of your customers prefer it. Personally, I've never had a customer request it in the nine years I've been selling online. I've also been fortunate to have reasonable customers who don't expect things to be delivered the same day or overnight without paying the price for it. So, I haven't had to deal with irate customers about delivery times. LOL As a matter of fact, nearly every review I've ever received from customers mentions how fast I ship. Of course, I don't know what you sell or who your main customer base is (local vs. national or worldwide). As also mentioned, that's the beauty of the current shipping system at Etsy -- its flexibility. Unfortunately, we cannot apply more than one shipping profile to an item, so you couldn't use calculated and flat rates for same day courier service. You might consider posting on Etsy's forums to see if there's anyone else who uses such a service and how they have their shipping set up. I doubt very seriously there will be many, if any, so you may or may not get an answer. I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful in that respect, but feel free to ask any questions through the process of setting up your Etsy shipping profiles and I'll do my best to answer them. Good luck!
