For those who have had a email telling you to clean up your site or suffer the penalties. Most of us that get this have no idea what Google wants so this link will help you get back in Google's good books, and with Google that is the hard part knowing what it wants, because so we have been told so many times to Play in Google's playground you have to comply or you are out in the cold. www.sitepronews.com/?s=3-steps-removing-google-site-penaltyHope it helps even just a little bit.

It was a long article, but I read it because I may have this problem.
A couple of weeks ago, on my google analytics page, hits from a site named semalt dot com started registering. At first, a couple every few days, then daily, and now about 30 to 40 percent of my daily visits are from this semalt place.
I googled semalt, and am a bit concerned about all the negative comments people are posting. Most claim it to be a spam site.
On google analytics, I know how to do exactly 2 things... one is to see the worldwide location of where my visits come from, and the other is to see what means the viewer used to get to my site (such as pinterest, google organic, bing, etc). That's it, out of all that analytics can provide you with, I know how to do just those 2 things.
I did try to locate an IP address for semalt to see if I could figure out how to block them, but another thing I found through research is that google will not provide any IP addresses.
Oh, and one other thing... the visits that semalt sends to me are always from foreign countries, mainly South America places like Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Mexico, and others.
This is where being so computer illiterate really hurts. I read the article and get the gist of it, but most all of it went right over my head.

kenoticket, I do not know if this helps or not but here is an email exchange that I had with Presto a short while back. Like you, I do not know or understand all of this. If this info is not of any help, just overlook it Thanks atticcollection for posting the link. Email exchange below: "Subject: Presto has been slow for me for about 3 or 4 days now Description: Hello. The site has been slow for me for about 3 or 4 days now, when I am listing and also when looking through my store. I keep having to hit the F5 key to get the pages to refresh and have to also do this when I am saving an area while listing. It just seems to get stuck. All other sites for me have been working fine, so I'm not sure what is going on. Thank you very much. Sharon ________________________ PrestoBiz response: 02/16/2014 Hello Sharon, Please let us know if it is running slowly for you right now. Or, any specific times of the day. Four days ago we installed anti-bot software to prevent malware bots from farming your website. Just now I checked and performance is excellent on your website. However if it is affecting your internet connectivity I will place a request to back out the anti-bot software. Thank you in a advance for the additional details on the performance. PrestoBiz Support _________________________ TreasureAisle response: 02/17/2014 It must be affecting my internet connectivity. The slowness is the same. Thank you. ________________________________ PrestoBiz response: 02/17/2014 Hello Sharon, Thank you for your reply. We have forwarded this information to our webmasters for review in regards to the anti-bot software. Thank you for contacting PrestoStore. PrestoBiz Support PrestoBiz response: 02/17/2014 ___________________________ Hello Sharon, We have disabled the anti-bot software on the server. However, we may have to enable the anti-bot software during short intervals a few times per month when we discover that the same bots from Russia, China and Vietnam are consuming resources by accessing hundreds of web pages at once. Thank you again for your patience. PrestoBiz Support"

Sharon, Thanks for that. I don't seem to be having any problem with 'slowness', but I did pick up your phrase of 'anti-bot'.
I hadn't thought about asking Presto if they have some means of blocking a site from visiting.
I'm off to contact Presto with the info.
Thanks again, keno

@sofyblu2 Sofy, I don't think anyone here received an email. I believe the original posting was just a copy of an online piece offering advice to anyone who MAY receive an email from google.
Pour yourself about 2 fingers of Jack Daniels Old #7. Breath in, breath out. Relax. Repeat as often as needed (or until you fall over).

Yeah, I got the 'page not found' notice also, but I let it sit for a few seconds and then the article appeared.

Another superb job by the Presto customer service team !!!
I wrote to them last night and basically told them exactly what I had written above about my concern with semalt.
I just rec'd this reply..........
***************************************************************************************************************
Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
We have attempted to install a "block" for web traffic referred from semalt.com. Other web sites have had success with the "block" although it will take 24 hours to take effect.
We also looked at blocking the IP addresses for web traffic from semalt.com but unfortunately they are using hundreds of different e-mail addresses (essentially they are frequently changing their IP addresses - perhaps using fake or spoofed IP addresses).
Hopefully the change that we put in place will reduce the traffic from semalt.com.
Best regards,
PrestoBiz Support

As of this morning, so far no visits are appearing on my google analytics from semalt. Normally by this time of day, there are about a dozen.
