I know we've discussed this before, but we no longer have that discussion to refer back to and I forgot what was said about it. So, I have to ask again, is "unknown" an acceptable entry for brand?
I'm noticing that on my eCrater listings, the identifier_exists:false isn't working to ensure the item gets fed to Google Shopping unless it has at least one UPI entered. There are a few items that I have no UPIs for and they're all being tagged with an exclamation mark despite entering the false attribute. So, I was wondering if I could use "unknown" for the brand. If not, I don't know what else I can do to appease the Google Gods.

Nevermind! LOL I used brand:other and it cleared out all of the exclamation marks I had...woohoo! Now, I'm not saying that this is acceptable to Google, but as long as I don't get any notices from eCrater that there's a problem, then I'm good. At least they're going to Google Shopping now.

Well, eCrater has finally updated the Google Shopping status report and 16 of my items were disapproved. All but one have the brand:other attribute, whether or not I had to use the identifier_exists:false attribute. The lot of two VHS tapes has the ISBN, UPC and year attributes listed for both tapes, so I guess I just need to remove the entries for one of the tapes.
So, it would seem that brand:other is not accepted by Google as I believe these are the only ones that I don't have a brand name for. I'm just going to try removing the brand attribute and add the identifier_exists:false attribute for those that do have an ISBN, UPC or MPN attributed to see if that works.
Before I go deleting more than the brand attribute, I want to know for sure whether or not Google will still accept UPI attributes even if you don't have two available, as long as the identifier_exists:false attribute is included for the missing one. I certainly don't want to delete my hard work by removing attributes for whatever UPI I do have available.
It took nearly two months since we last discussed this for these to be reported to me -- and that doesn't include the time since these items were listed/updated. I sure wish eCrater were more diligent about getting these reports to us. Although, I'm not sure if it's the fact that eCrater doesn't update the reporting section very often or if Google is the one causing the delay.
So, it might be another two months before I find out if my latest attempt has worked. UGH!

I don't know the answer to your question, but if I were you, regarding the VHS movies I'd google something like "what studio produced (name of movie)" and that's what I'd use for brand for the time being.

Oh, I have the brand for the VHS tapes. That was the only listing that was different because it's a lot of two tapes where I had double entries for the ISBN, UPC and year attributes.
