I just posted this in the comments section of Glenn Gabe's blog article. I apologize that I didn't do it sooner as it completely slipped my mind being as busy as I have been. It says it's waiting for approval, so whether or not he posts it publicly, hopefully he'll see it and join us here to offer his help:
Thank you for sharing your findings. It has been a great help. The members of the business forum I own have been discussing this at length trying to figure out how it's affecting us and what we need to do. In the process, we came up with a list of questions, many of which I found the answers doing research.
However, there are a few others we still have and were hoping that you could help us with. Of course, if you would, you can answer them here, but feel free to view our discussions at esellerscafe.boards.net. You would need to join as a member in order to view the private area (it's free).
Here are the questions:
1. What if others are copying your content without your permission and not attributing it to you? Can Google still see that yours is the original? If not, is there a code you can add to your own page that would designate it as your original content? I do include a copyright statement in the site's footer.
2. What if you unknowingly attribute content you've copied to a source that's not the original author? Will Google ding you for that?
3. Regarding pages that list your categories and/or describe what's in your categories, do we need to noindex those pages to avoid being penalized by Google?
4. How does spam traffic/referer spam affect user engagement and bounce rate metrics?
5. While I know Matt Cutts at Google has said that the bots are "trained" to recognize and ignore boilerplate content, how worried do we need to be that our boilerplate content regarding shipping, condition, etc., will be view as duplicate content (whether an exact duplicate or closely matched)?
Here are the two discussions on the forum:
esellerscafe.boards.net/thread/397/panda-findings-syndication-engagement-index
esellerscafe.boards.net/thread/400/disappearing-search-results-read
We would greatly appreciate any help you could offer us, particularly since several of the members have difficulty grasping Google's confusing ways.
Thanks in advance. =)
