As you may be aware, I'm currently setting up my site on SquareSpace, which has calculated USPS shipping, but doesn't allow for individual shipping rules by product. So, the larger, heavier items that would ship cheaper or can only be shipped via UPS cannot be set up -- at least not without having to trick the system.
I'd have to change the package weight and dimensions to get the USPS calculator to match the price of a UPS shipment. I'm really not interested in doing that so was looking for alternatives. Yes, SquareSpace integrates with ShipStation, but that costs $25/mo(!) and I'm noticing a lot of unhappy customers, including SquareSpace site owners, in their forums.
So, I continued doing my research to see if there was some other third-party service I could use that didn't cost an arm and a leg. While SquareSpace only integrates with Stripe for receiving payments, I CAN add my own PayPal button on the checkout page. So, it got me to thinking...PayPal has a shipping calculator that we all use to create and print labels, so I wonder if I could get that feature added to my site.
So, I called PayPal and found out that my free Merchant account DOES provide that option! (I say free, but I mean it doesn't cost more than the usual payment transaction fees we all pay) You just have to set up shipping profiles within your account, so when a customer clicks your custom PayPal button, it will automatically calculate the shipping for you based on your shipping profiles.
Awesome! So, I've put in an email to SquareSpace support asking if they think this will work because I'm certainly willing to give it a try. Anything's better than their lackluster shipping set up or paying $25/mo(!) for a third-party shipping service, especially when it's FREE with an account I already have and print shipping labels through.
I'll let you know how it goes, making note of the steps I took to set it up and posting them in this thread.
Wish me luck!
P.S. -- This will only work for Merchant/Business accounts, which don't cost any extra than a regular account. The only upgrade that does cost $30/mo is the ProPay account, but you don't need that.
