I always used to use the Microsoft Works Calendar program to help keep track of things, but I only have that available on the other laptop that I rarely use. Windows used to have a similar calendar program, but they did away with it beginning with Windows 7. Since I'm going to have a lot of appointments and tasks to keep up with this year, I really need such a program and was on the hunt for one that was as good or at least close to it, but there wasn't anything.
Well, good news! I just found out that you can still download Windows Calendar without having to sign up for Windows Live (the reason I didn't previously go with that option). I didn't need yet another account to keep up with, nor do I want my calendar on the Cloud. I want it on my private hard drive. So, if you're like me, this option is perfect! I just tried it and now have Windows Calendar on my Windows 7 computer...woohoo!
The first link is to an article with instructions, including screenshots, and the second is the link where you can safely download Windows Calendar. One thing to note, the instructions are for pinning it to your taskbar (the thingy you see at the bottom of your screen), but I prefer to keep that area clean. So, instead of selecting that option, I chose to pin it to my start menu (where you click on the Windows icon at the far left of the taskbar to see your start menu).
One other thing to note is that my computer won't let me download things to my Program Files folders, but I could create the 'Windows Calendar' folder the instructions say to do. So, I just downloaded it to my Downloads folder and then extracted all the files and chose the Windows Calendar folder I created. If you need more detailed instructions, just let me know.
So, here are the links:
